Rationale and scope

High throughput “omics” technologies generate large quantities of high dimensional data. Moreover, biological data are scattered across thousands of biological databases and hundreds of scientific journals. The challenge for Integrative Bioinformatics in the e-Science age is to capture, model, integrate and analyse these data in order to provide systematic insights into complex biological systems.
However, the huge size of these data make it necessary to deploy the vast majority of tasks over the Internet. In this context, network tools, which are the scope of Network Tools and Application for Biology workshops, are fundamental to achieve above goals. Improved user interfaces may allow researchers a more productive activity on the web. At the same time, standards are the basis for any possible data integration and efficient methods for interoperable web systems are needed. Workflow management systems, able to efficiently deploy Web Services on the web, with the aim of automating data validation, integration, and discovery, may be the final objective for bioinformatics in the “omics” era.
In 2015, the Fifteenth NETTAB Workshop and the Eleventh Integrative Bioinformatics conference are joining their forces for an synergistic event able to attract even more researchers than in the past on their traditional topics.
The joint event will be of interest to Bioinformaticians, Computer Scientists, Systems Biologists, Synthetic Biologists and others working or interested in the above research scope. It will provide an excellent environment and a range of opportunities to present and discuss methods, theoretical approaches, algorithms, tools, platforms, practical applications and experiences.
NETTAB/IB2015 is jointly organized by: CNR Institute for Biomedical Technologies, Bari, Italy, Fachgruppe IMBio, German Society of Computer Science (GI), and IRCCS AOU San Martino IST, Genoa, Italy.
