Alexander Goesmann is professor of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at Justus-Liebig-University Giessen since 2013. He got a Diploma in Informatics and a PhD at the Faculty of Technology, University of Bielefeld, where he was also Post-doc fellow until 2006. From 2006 to 2013, he was Head of Bioinformatics Resource Facility (BRF) and Team leader of Young Research Group “Computational Genomics”, University of Bielefeld.

The German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI) is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research from 2015 until 2020 with a total of 22 Mio €.
It is the goal of this network to provide comprehensive first-class bioinformatics services to users in basic and applied life sciences research.
Furthermore, the de.NBI program coordinates bioinformatics training and education in Germany as well as the cooperation of the German bioinformatics community with international bioinformatics network structures.
Within this talk, Alexander Goesmann will introduce the de.NBI network and illustrate the research topics of the eight funded service centers.
As an example, he will present the BiGi Bioinformatics Resource Center that combines bioinformatics expertise and facilities at Bielefeld and Gießen Universities as required in the field of microbial genome research.
